Health and Safety Committees

The University has an Organizational Safety and Health Advisory Committee (OSHA) as well as numerous Local Area Safety and Health Committees (LASH).

OSHA meets on a regular basis and includes members of all sectors of the University including one CUPE 3909 member.  All meeting minutes are posted on the UM website along with minutes for the existing LASH committees.

LASH committees help identify, assess, and resolve safety concerns at the Departmental, Building, and Area level.  LASH committees in areas where our members are employed must have a CUPE 3909 member on the committee.  Please contact us for more information if you are interested in serving as a Health & Safety representative in your area.

If you are a CUPE representative on  a LASH Committee, please use this form below record and report hours spent on LASH Committee duties.

We will be looking for Unit 1 and Unit 2 representative for several Local Area Safety and Health committees at the Annual General Meeting.  If you are interested, please contact the Local Union Office and we will send you information regarding responsibilities and pay for work on these committees.
